History of Amapiano music

Amapiano (isizulu for “the pianos”) is a style of house music that emerged in South Africa in 2012. It is a hybrid of deep house, jazz and lounge music characterized by synths, airy pads and wide percussive basslines.

How Amapiano style was formed
Much like its predecessors, amapiano was initially a byproduct of the manipulation of house tracks, through slowing them down to a lower BPM. As an unorthodox offshoot of soulful and deep house in its infancy, many purists used to shun the sound and its sonics. The South African amapiano has given birth to other Amapianos round the world and across Africa. Nigerian music industry have produced an amapiano style for themselves and adding much flavor to the game to suit the Nigerian people.
What inspired amapiano?
Amapiano genre traces its roots back to Kwaito which was an Afro Pop genre-blending musical beats from Zulu folklore. Zulu is a revered culture in South Africa and its sounds have inspired several music genres in South Africa including gqom which has been overshadowed by Amapiano.

In the Zulu language, amapiano literally means ‘the pianos’ but it’s a genre that’s much more complex in composition than the name implies
Amapiano style has found its way into many afro beat, hip hop and thus influencing the beat or rather complimenting the beat and most times take over completely.
