Arsenal loanee Trusty impresses with last-minute winner

Auston Trusty, the American defender for Arsenal, has put himself in the spotlight with his impressive performance in Birmingham City’s 4-3 victory over Swansea City on Saturday.

Trusty was signed by Arsenal over a year ago from Colorado Rapids, but has been loaned out to the Championship since July.

His heroics couldn’t have come at a better time as he tries to avoid being overlooked with the recent arrival of Polish prodigy Jakub Kiwior, who adds depth to the left-sided defender role.

Trusty’s last-minute winner will have definitely caught the attention of Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, who is facing a challenging task in managing his squad between the Premier League and European fixtures.

In an interview with Birmingham’s official club website, Trusty said, “It is a great feeling – it is a feeling we needed, obviously, coming from the losses we have had in the past.”

He went on to say, “I feel great, I’m just doing my thing and playing my game. I’m trying to take advantage of every opportunity and be that person for the team and for the squad. I’m having fun.”

He also spoke with Goal.com around various topics including current Arsenal team: “I would say they are the best team in the world. It’s been a remarkable season and hopefully it continues and they go on and win the title. I know that’s the mindset of the entire Arsenal organisation. I wish I was part of the team doing it, but watching from afar I’m still proud watching the squad doing what they are doing.”

When asked about his ambition to wear the infamous Red and Whites: “To get there and play every single game. That’s the mindset I have. I want to go there, show what I can do and make my mark in the Premier League and on the team. It’s all a stepping stone, but that’s the main goal. The sky’s the limit really.”

It remains to be seen what the future holds for Trusty, but his performance on Saturday will no doubt have put him in a positive light for Arsenal and its management.
