He graduated from the prestigious Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Kaduna, where he earned the NDA Certificate of Education. Tunji Olurin also underwent training at the School of Infantry, Quetta, Pakistan, the Command and Staff College, Jaji, Kaduna, and the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, Jos.

In March 1970, Tunji Olurin was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Nigerian Army. Throughout his illustrious military career, he served in various notable positions, showcasing his commitment and expertise. He played a crucial role as the Deputy Defence Attaché to the Nigerian High Commission in India from 1975 to 1978.
