As Arsenal sit on top of the Premier League with a two-point lead and a game in hand, former Gunners legend Thierry Henry has shared his thoughts on the title race.
Speaking on the CBS Sports House of Champions podcast, Henry praised Mikel Arteta for his work in transforming the club on and off the pitch. As an Arsenal legend, he is able to understand the work the Spaniard is doing.
Henry spoke of the disconnection between the fans and the team prior to Arteta’s appointment, with supporters longing to see a team that can compete and fight.
The Frenchman believes that Arteta, alongside Edu and the board, has successfully brought back the passion and spirit that Arsenal fans are so well-known for.
While Henry admitted he’s unsure if Arsenal will win the league this season, he believes the Gunners are on the right track to achieving greatness once again. He stated that they can’t be fooled by a lack of effort or commitment.
Here is what the French legend had to say regarding Arsenal’s title ambitions and his words would have been wonderful to hear for any Gunner’s fan – “Edu, the board, Mikel Arteta, whoever, however you want to call it, brought that back. Are we going to win the league? I don’t know. But it looks like the Arsenal I know. At the end of the day, you can’t fool fans, they scream, they’re there and they have that attitude because they see something, that’s why they’re loud. It’s a different emotion.”
As a former Arsenal player and one of the greatest strikers in Premier League history, Henry knows what it takes to win titles. His assessment of the current Arsenal team is a positive one, suggesting that they have what it takes to compete at the highest level.
The Premier League is always full of surprises, and anything can happen over the course of a season. However, with Henry’s seal of approval and Arteta’s clear impact on the team, Arsenal fans can be confident that their team is heading in the right direction.
